coffee dance.

by Liz on 09.26

When Little Josh was just a few months old, the sound of the coffee grinder was terrifying.

He’d sob and hide and reach for me.

To prove to him that it was nothing to fear, Josh would do a stupid little dance every time he used the coffee grinder, moving to it as if it was music.

Even now, when Little Josh hears any similarly “scary” whirring, grinding, mechanical noise he stops whatever he’s doing, runs in, and starts dancing.

I wonder if we’ll be able to combat all of his fears this way?

I, for the record, would LOVE if we could continually solve his problems by dancing. I’m glad we agree on our parenting strategy. :)

Next time I’m afraid of something, I’m going to dance at it and see if that helps. Thanks, Little J!

This little story endears the idea of children to me way more than most anything else I can think of.

You guys are very good at this parenting thing.

I love that he dances in the face of fear! Wish I could do the same….maybe I will!

I love this idea. Our friends do this thing where if their kids falls in a non-serious way they tell him to literally “shake it off” and it is so cute and we are totally using it.

Oh, so we’re not the only weird ones that have trained our child to love the (formerly) scary coffee grinder? I grin manically at my son while saying YAY! while grinding coffee and he now smiles hugely and claps when he hears it. Too cute.
